After the American War of Independence, the British began construction of an impressive fortification in the early 1800s at the western end of Bermuda. This was the beginning of the Royal Naval Dockyard that soon came to be known as ‘Gibraltar of the West’. Thousands of convicts and slaves were used to build the fortress and many succumbed to the harsh conditions and rampant yellow fever. After a century and a half of service to the British Royal Navy, the process of coversion of the fortification to civilian use began and today, the Royal Naval Dockyard is one of Bermuda’s most popular destinations for locals and visitors alike.   • Bermuda Maritime Museum
    A fascinating journey into Bermuda's Maritime History, from sail to steam including Commissioners House on the highest point of land in Dockyard that offers a panoramic view of the fortifications and surrounding area.

    Here's your chance to interact with the freindly mammals that create such a lasting impressions with children and adults alike. This is a very busy attraction so please call ahead.
  • The Clocktower Mall
    Located in the landmark building with 2 Towers are a wonderful variety of shops with items to delight all ages and tastes.
  • Bermuda Arts Centre
    Work by local artists is featured here and be sure to enquire about the scheduled opportunities to meet and talk with various local artisans.
  • The Snorkel Park
    Bring your bathing suit and a towel to enjoy fascinating snorkelling around the inshore coral reef as well as a variety of water toys and refreshments - all from a sheltered beach.

  • Destination Dockyard
    Bermuda’s newest event, sponsored by the West End Development Corporation (WEDCO), Department of Tourism (DOT) and hosted by the Chamber of Commerce, is held each Tuesday during the summer months.
    there’s a festival of fun taking place at the West End! Arrive at the Royal Naval Dockyard by 8:00 pm and let the good times roll until 11:00 pm.
  • Bermuda Craft Market. The Department of Tourism and the Chamber of Commerce established the craft market in 1987. It is the largest, most extensive craft outlet in the islands, featuring the works of 60 Bermudians. Every day you will find artists here who are happy to explain their crafts as you watch them work.
